Help Your Garden Grow With These Simple Tips

Many people are beginning to see how great an organic garden really can be. With the application of the simple, yet effective advice in this article, you should soon be able to cultivate your own flourishing organic garden. Just use these ideas and follow through with them.

Consider using your car to dry your home-grown herbs. Simply lay a sheet of newspaper across the backseat and spread out your herbs on it, then roll up the windows. Your herbs will dry quickly in the low-humidity heat of your car, and the interior of your car will have a fresh, herbal scent.

Most people design their gardens with plants in their hands and a shovel. However, the best idea is to wait to choose your plants after you have decided upon a layout or landscaping design. Once you have completed the landscaping, move on to the last step to your garden; planting your favorite flowers, shrubs and trees.

Create a convenient cleaning station next to your outside faucet or garden hose. Collect all of your old soap slivers from around the house (or simply use a whole bar) and place in a plastic mesh bag. You can often find these bags in the produce department of your favorite store for storing vegetables in the refrigerator, or in the laundry department for delicates. Hang the bag near your hose, and the mesh works as a scrubber as well as containing the soap for an easy hand washing station.

If you do not have a lot of square footage for gardening, try using trellises or posts in your garden. Allowing certain vegetables to grow up a trellis or post rather than spreading out along the ground will allow you to grow more per square foot. You can do this with tomatoes, peas, and climbing beans.

You should be cognizant of the peak time for harvesting your vegetables. Every vegetable has a proper time to be picked in order to capture the perfect flavor. Some vegetables, such as zucchini and baby peas, should be harvested when they are relatively young. By contrast, it’s best to wait until tomatoes are fully ripe before picking them. So, make sure you do some research, and find out when the best time to harvest your vegetables is.

Bulbs produce beautiful flowers in your garden year after year. To achieve the most blooms, plant your bulbs as soon as temperatures in your area begin to cool in the fall. This is usually August in zones 1 to 4 and September in zones 4 to 7. Those in southern climates will have to chill their bulbs before planting.

Keep yourself safe, it’s the first thing to know about gardening. Wear protective eye-wear when handling lawnmowers and other garden machinery. Wear gloves when you are working in the dirt. This will keep you safe in case of an incident and protect your body from different elements in the environment.

As mentioned earlier, it will take time and effort to achieve the goals you have for your organic garden. Patience will be required. Put the tips you have learned above to use today, and see firsthand just how wonderful your new garden can be. Despite what you grow, use the above tips to succeed with them.
